At Greggton we take seriously our mandate to “connect people with Christ and with each other.” We recognize that an individual finds wholeness and fulfillment by enjoying a connection with God, connections with believers, and connections with those who are not yet aware of the love of Christ. We seek to offer dynamic ministries that help followers of Jesus grow through this spiritual formation process and become more like Christ. We invite you to come experience the love of a community of believers who are seeking to follow Christ with a passion.
Connecting to God
We connect with God through our conversations with God. At Greggton we encourage everyone to enjoy an everyday prayer life, to read through the Bible regularly, and to authentically worship the Lord every week with praise and joy and sacrificial giving—giving ourselves freely and completely. We offer both traditional and contemporary styles to help you encounter God and find a new beginning.
Connecting to Believers
We need each other. That truth is basic to life and essential for us spiritually. Christians must spend time together sharing their hearts, comforting and encouraging one another, teaching, praying for one another, laughing and crying together, helping each other through the challenges of life. We have Sunday schools and Bible studies and times simply to talk. Let us help you get connected.
Connecting to the World
We are committed to sharing the love of Jesus through our words and through our actions—telling others about Jesus and serving them with acts of kindness in Jesus’ name. Who are “others”? Unbelievers, those in need, the people forgotten by everyone else, those who are oppressed by injustice. We don’t merely want to make a difference in the world; we want to make a different world.
Being Connected
When people think about becoming part of a church they use the word membership - as in being a member, or part, of the Body of Christ. But in our culture we tend to have a different concept of membership - "it makes me an insider." So at Greggton we want to use a different image: partner. You see, membership has privileges; partnership has responsibilities. We believe Christ makes us responsible for carrying out his mission. So what does that mean in practical terms? We've laid it out in a simple statement:
Membership as Partnership
I am created in the image of God and by his grace that sin-stained image is made new through repentance and an authentic relationship with Jesus as my Savior and the Lord of my life. That happens only through the work of the Holy Spirit who draws me closer to the heart of the Father and into community with believers where I can grow and share that love.
Through God’s empowering grace, I am a member of the Body of Christ and a partner in the mission of Greggton United Methodist Church, among whom I share in connecting people with Christ and each other. Therefore, I live out a covenant relationship with God, the church, and the world.
